About Paul Robinson

DVSA Approved Driving Instructor and Former DVSA Driving Examiner

Driving tuition is about much more than explaining how to control a car.

A good instructor needs to understand driving, understand the standard expected and, equally importantly, understand how people learn.

My approach is calm, structured and centred around helping you become a safe, confident and independent driver.

Experience That Helps You

Professional Knowledge. A Human Approach.

Qualifications and professional experience matter.

But they only become useful to you when they can be communicated in a way that makes sense.

Lessons should not feel like a lecture.

I want you to feel encouraged to ask questions, understand the reasons behind what you are doing and gradually develop the ability to make decisions yourself.

★★★★★

“Paul is an instructor who truly understands the power of positive reinforcement combined with constructive criticism.”

The same review describes my relaxing manner and a teaching philosophy focused on becoming a “better, safer and more confident driver.”

Understanding Your Driving

Learning Through Understanding

I do not want you simply memorising instructions.

I want you to understand the reasons behind safe driving.

That means discussing what you can see, what might happen next, what risks are developing and why one course of action may be safer than another.

As your understanding develops, you should need progressively less input from me.

Eventually, the decisions are yours.

That is what becoming an independent driver means.
Positive Development

A Positive Approach to Development

Mistakes are treated as learning opportunities.

We identify what happened, consider why it happened and decide what can be changed next time.

Development Works Both Ways

Positive performance matters too.

Recognising what you are already doing well helps you understand which behaviours need to be repeated.

This balance between encouragement and constructive development appears repeatedly throughout my customer feedback.

Safe Driving Skills for Life

The Goal

Passing the practical driving test matters.

But it is one day in what may be fifty or sixty years of driving.

The bigger objective is to give you the skills, understanding and confidence to make safe decisions long after your driving lessons have finished.
